Muscle-Centric Fitness Coaching

Factors that highly influence or life span and health are the amount of muscle you have and your heart/lung health or V02Max. We must lift heavy objects (relative to us) routinely to stimulate muscle and bone growth – no matter our age or abilities. Our muscles (and brains!) require we push and pull, lift and move objects enough to stimulate muscle growth. Our heart and lungs require enough stress through our speed and power movements to keep them healthy. Moving our muscles in this way, stimulates bone growth for health bone density mitigating osteopenia and osteoporosis (along with the necessary nutrients to rebuild our muscles/bones!)

My Story

A serious road cycling accident in 2009 resulted in multiple injuries, including traumatic brain injury (TBI). A wired jaw led me to severe weight loss and a rebound to weight gain, gut/brain issues, and a loss of muscle and strength. This led me on a search for knowledge and practices for gaining muscle for health and longevity, as well as healing my brain, body, and spirit.

The Road to Recovery

Healing began with a consistent routine of resistance training to gain back lean tissue and lose the body fat I gained due to my jaw being wired for many months and the inability to workout. I also worked on mobility to get back range of motion, and HIIT/cardio to improve oxygen delivery to my brain.

I was told by a nurse about Tai Chi and found a local master. I started learning Chen Style Tai Chi to improve my memory and balance, later adding Qigong as a practice for mindfulness and stress reduction. It helped me so much I became an instructor and love to see others heal from it as well.

The next puzzle piece was determining the best nutrition for me to improve my gut microbiome and reduce inflammation – which is a side effect of use of the many medications, the brain injury, and only being able to drink smoothies for months. It ended up being a lot of sugar and not very healthy.

It wasn’t a fast fix. It took more than a year of consistent and targeted changes of increasing protein and micronutrients to each meal, quality sleep, targeted supplementation, and reducing stress to reach my goal. Unexpectedly, it showed a positive change in how I was aging. I had more energy, clarity of thought, my skin looked better, and my body started showing muscle tone.

What I also learned was inflammation affects everything – including how we heal, think, and age. I turned a focused recovery into lifelong habits, and so can you!

My multi-faceted programming results in body composition changes (more muscle – less fat!), healthy aging, less pain, greater energy, faster recovery from illness/injury, greater overall fitness, and improved cognition.

Good Things Are Coming

Client Love

Peggy is a wonderful instructor who stands out for her complete view of fitness and health. She effectively balances challenging classes with a strictness for form with recovery classes and health recommendations to provide a uniquely holistic fitness approach. I’ve seen significant results with weight loss, increased strength, and improved energy from attending her virtual classes over the course of the pandemic. On top of it all, she has an infectious positive energy that brightens your day with every class.

Eric L

If you’re looking for a good workout, look no more! Peggy makes every class fun with her high energy, impressive experience, and encouraging spirit. The workouts are always different and challenge you to improve so that you can reach peak performance, and she also offers foundational classes where you can focus on mobility, stress-reduction, injury-prevention, and flexibility. There are many gyms and trainers out there, but none of them are as valuable as Peggy. She will ensure you have the perfect form, a great variety of exercises, adjust the workouts to consider any potential injuries, and most importantly-that you have fun in class!

Peggy is a great trainer with limitless patience for those of us who do not always practice what she preaches to us (by our own request). I have been Peggy’s tai chi student for at least 3 years. Her passion for her work has made me realize that this is the BEST modality ever for aging bodies (better than yoga, Pilates, whatever other trendy thing pops up). It will keep all ages from accidents and certainly aid in recovering from accidents…guess there’s no way to avoid those…but tai-chi does help…like a true wonder drug. I have taken her instruction both in person and on-line. Either way, worth the time and money.

Soon after suffering a small stroke and showing symptoms of Parkinson’s disease in mid-2018, my wife was referred to Peggy Lytle. A careful assessment of Sandra led to an exercise program focused on balance and strength. Peggy was very sensitive to Sandra’s needs and physical capabilities. Sessions are conducted with sensitivity and good humor, always providing helpful and encouraging feedback. private Sessions were conducted for nearly a year as Sandra gained both strength and balance. Covid 19 interrupted her program for much of 2020. Recently, Peggy updated her assessment and designed a new program for Sandra via Zoom. Since the passing of my wife, I have worked weekly with Peggy to improve my strength, stamina, balance and mobility. She has helped me to stand with good posture during multiple choir performances, get over injuries and come back from some health challenges. We discuss nutrition and supplement options that are specific to my needs and lifestyle strategies to improve sleep and reduce stress.

Christopher S

Peggy has been our personal coach for several years. During SIP she set up a home gym for us which we utilized for personal workouts, but now online coaching, as we go into another SIP. She has provided individualized strength, balance and mobility training that take into account or age, joint and health issues. We have recently added Qigong and Tai chi for stress reduction, brain and body fitness. She recommends relevant nutrition, supplement and lifestyle changes (drink more water!) and refers to current research on the topics.

Issie R

I am a 66 year old guy with a cancer diagnosis. I have been working with Peggy for 2 years in the areas of nutrition, strength training and lifestyle changes, particularly with improving sleep habits. The progress I have made has been remarkable with Peggy’s guidance. I have met and exceeded all of my health goals. I also have a son with significant disabilities and health challenges. When we met Peggy his health was declining. Through a similar, yet completely customized plan for my son designed by Peggy, his health has turned around with less GI issues, putting on weight – mostly muscle and his sleep has improved. I highly recommend Peggy to anyone who wants to make health and wellness improvements – no matter where you are healthwise to feel better than you thought possible.

Dave P

My wife and I have been training with Peggy for about 18 months now, and we wholeheartedly recommend Peggy as a personal fitness and nutrition coach. Over the past 18 months, Peggy has been an invaluable asset to our health and well-being journey. She has not only been a phenomenal coach, trainer, and nutrition guide but also an unofficial therapist and a friend, providing unwavering support through some personal health challenges and family transitions.

Peggy’s passion for holistic health and fitness is evident in every interaction. Her depth of knowledge in nutrition, fitness, workouts, and overall health is truly impressive. She stays at the forefront of the latest discoveries and discussions in these fields, ensuring her clients receive the most up-to-date and effective guidance. I love discussing the latest episodes of health podcasts (Dr. Peter Attila, Dr. Huberman etc.), TV shows and books, and Peggy always has good insights to add to the conversations.

Peggy’s coaching skills are exceptional. She creates personalized plans that address our individual needs and goals, adapting them as circumstances change. Her approach is not only effective but also motivating and encouraging. She has a unique ability to push her clients while also providing the emotional support needed to navigate difficult times.

Peggy’s dedication to her clients goes above and beyond. She is truly invested in their success and well-being, both inside and outside of the gym. Her positive energy, genuine care, and unwavering support make her an exceptional coach and a true asset to anyone seeking to improve their health and fitness.

We are incredibly grateful for Peggy’s guidance and support. She has made a significant positive impact on our lives, and I have no doubt she will continue to do the same for many others !!

Abhi K

If you’re looking for a transformative health and fitness experience, Peggy is the person who can help you. Her expertise, enthusiasm, and motivational coaching helped me with my wellness goals. Her programs in strength training have brought remarkable progress, at least in my case. Peggy’s approach combines fun, challenging workouts with practical advice, ensuring we stay motivated and see continuous improvement. I wholeheartedly recommend Peggy to anyone aiming to achieve exceptional health and fitness results.
